Top 10 Tuesday – 10/10/2023

As the number of backlogged books I need to review slowly dwindle, I have been looking at some other options as to what posts I can have. One option I was looking into was Top 10 Tuesday, by That Artsy Reader Girl. So for this week’s top 10 Tuesday….

Bookish Jobs I Would Do For Free (Real or Imaginary) (Submitted by Susan @ Bloggin’ bout Books)

-That Artsy Reader Girl

I am not going to lie. I am not entirely sure what this topic even means. So I am going to go out on a limb with this one…

  1. Book Boxer: Have you seen that Instagram reel from Book of the Month featuring the amazing women working in their warehouse? It’s incredible! While I might not be into taping boxes together, I’d absolutely adore being the person responsible for carefully placing the books into those boxes, ensuring they’re perfectly snug and ready to delight readers.
  2. Shelf Designer: Imagine a job where your sole purpose is to visit bookstores and arrange their display shelves. I’d jump at the chance to make those bookstores even more inviting and captivating for readers, creating a visual feast for book lovers.
  3. Book Smeller: While some people adore the scent of old books, I have a different idea. I’d love a unique role where I evaluate second-hand books, categorizing them into “Old Book Smell” and “No Book Smell” categories. This way, customers can easily find the nostalgic aroma they crave or avoid it altogether.
  4. Book Design and Production Specialist: This isn’t just an imaginary job—it’s real! In fact, I’m so tempted to apply for it right now. Being a part of the book design and production process, from cover art to layout, would be a dream come true.
  5. Slush Pile Reader: Remember that ‘Younger’ episode where Sutton Foster’s character discovers a hidden gem in the slush pile? I’d love to explore the world of slush pile reading, despite its reputation as entry-level or unpaid work. Discovering hidden literary gems and championing new voices sounds like an exciting adventure.
  6. Book Blogger: Lucky for me, this is something I’m already doing! Sharing my thoughts on books and connecting with fellow bookworms through my blog is a rewarding experience.
  7. Audiobook Narrator: With my unique and intriguing voice, I’m confident I could lend a captivating narrative to various novels. If anyone’s in need of an audiobook narrator, count me in!
  8. Library Book Recommender: What could be cooler than getting paid to recommend books to eager readers? I’d love to review people’s Goodreads profiles, understand their preferences, and suggest their next literary adventure.
  9. Bookstore Owner in a Hallmark Movie: Picture this: I’m the charming owner of a quaint bookstore in a heartwarming Hallmark movie. The cozy atmosphere, friendly customers, and a touch of romance—sounds like a dream come true!
  10. Author’s Muse: While I may consider myself a mediocre writer, I’ve led a pretty interesting life. If an author wanted to turn my adventures into a Manic Pixie Dream Girl RomCom and pay me royalties, I’d be more than willing to step into the spotlight as their muse.
