Sunday – Cross Training: Golf/Inline Skating
Today was such a fun filled sporty day! Competitive play begins in golf league this week, and I wanted to get one more round in before we start; so I ventured out to a Metropark golf course to play 18 by myself. The plan was to play the 18 holes, then roller blade 16miles – but I ended up cutting the roller blading in half based on what time I stop playing golf.
The golf course notified me earlier that because I was a single, I would be paired up with a group of 3 (which actually ended up being a group of 2 and another single). I was beyond nervous about this. It was the first time I have played alone, and to be paired up with a bunch of randos was giving me anxiety. It didn’t help when I showed up to the golf course and within the first 3 minutes of playing some random old man “jokingly” yelled at me “NO LADIES BEFORE NOON!” Nothing makes you excited about going out of your comfort zone more than some mild microaggressions. /sarc.
Thankfully, I wasn’t partnered in a group with Asshole man, and instead my group was all very normal people. However, I showed asshole man up when on the first hole, I completely whiffed my first drive (using new tees and teed it up way too high so I got all tee no ball) but then on my breakfast ball, ended up out driving everyone.

After golf, I drove over to the bike trail and began rollerblading. The loop was 8.5 miles and had some pretty big hills. The max speed I reached was 21.8mph. As much as the hills sucked, I do think this is the best path for me to practice on to get faster. The course in Germany has a pretty big hill (inline skating wise) at 20km to 30km. This loop will totally prep me for it.

Monday – Speed

I hate 400m sprints. However, knowing that I need to maintain a pace of 8:44/mi made them easier. However, I ran faster than that. My running budy S joined me for them, although he only ran 6 800ms but his were about 6min/mile pace. I was impressed that I did jog the majority of the recovery. I only stopped to walk after the 4th 400m so that I could properly digest the Cliff Gel I took. Overall, I ran them at an 8:00min/mile pace. However, when I got to the last one, I really wanted to push myself, but to where I could still jog the mile home.
It was hard seeing that I ran it in 1:46.6 knowing that when I was a senior, and didn’t have lung damage, I could run a 400m in 69 seconds.

Tuesday – Rest Day
Some light foam rolling, lower back exercises, and Dungeons and Dragons. If you don’t want any Strixhaven spoilers look away!
DnD was a blast. We are currently playing the Strixhaven Campaign and I am a Winter Elf Princess (think Elsa meets Paris Hilton) and just reached the Battle of Strixhaven. Thankfully, I got a few lucky rolls in that let me keep defense on lock. I ended up freezing 2 competitors completely solid using my Rime’s Binding Ice in a Level 3 spell slot as well as casting a 60ft fog cloud by casting Fog Cloud in the 3rd spell slot as well. All I had to do was hope that the other two players could capture the other teams mascot and bring it back in time. I can’t tell you what they did to do it, because I always try to dissociate whenever I know my player character is not close enough to hear their moves so it doesn’t affect what my player character would do.
Wednesday – Cross Training: Golf League
It was the first week of competitive play and G and I came out on top! The wind today was horrendous. We had to club up twice (use a smaller number club than normal) to even get somewhat close. Putting was also better today. Though I still had some three putts, I had more two putts or even a 1 put on hole 8 (where I shot a true par! First of the year)
Aside from my Par, and a couple of pretty good drives and a 3 wood shot, the play of the game was on hole 7. Off the tee box I landed deep, deep, deep in the rough. Thankfully, we were able to find my ball and with a stroke of luck, I was able to use my sand wedge to get my ball out of the rough and land it right on the fringe of the green. I felt like a real professional with that move.

Thursday – Rest
Today is suppose to be the “travel day” for the half marathon. However, because of work, I am driving up Friday so I am doing the 2 mile Easy run today. Obviously, I had to bring Wallace with me and he was beyond pumped.

Friday – Easy Run
Rest Day/Expo Day! We left work at around 1:30pm in order to attempt to make it to the expo by 6pm. Arrived slightly after 6:20pm. By that time, most of the expo was packed up but we got my bib and then headed over to dinner at Artisan. There I ordered the Mushroom Spaccatelli (it was was phenomenal and a perfect pre-race meal). Arrived at the hotel slightly after 8pm, checked in, laid my race stuff out, then went to bed.
Saturday – Bayshore Half Marathon
Boy was I nervous for todays big race. Can’t wait for you to read more about it in it’s Marathon Monday post. Spoiler Alert! My Garmin finish time was 2:06:11.
