Top 10 Tuesday – 5/23/2023

As the number of backlogged books I need to review slowly dwindle, I have been looking at some other options as to what posts I can have. One option I was looking into was Top 10 Tuesday, by That Artsy Reader Girl. So for this week’s top 10 Tuesday….

Things That Make Me Instantly Want to Read a Book

-That Artsy Reader Girl

1. Reese’s Book Club

Hello Sunshine! Founder Reese Witherspoon has never steered me wrong with a good book choice. Her company, Hello Sunshine, aims to broaden perspective and empower women by giving them authorship, inspiring agency, and creating a platform to help them shape culture and the world around them. In conjunction with Reese’s Book Club, I feel Reese has done just that. All of the picks focus on a women being at the center, and have stories that are easily relatable.

2. Book of the Month Pick

Similar to Reese’s Book Club, Book of the Month has been my strongest foundation in deciding what books to read. Their staff does a fabulous job of vetting new releases, and makes it easy to decide which book to read through their “Quick Takes” and “Good to Know” icons. If you still are on the fence, their “Why I Love It” aspect helps you decide as well.

3. Written by Taylor Jenkins Reid

TJR is the Historical Fiction writer of my dreams. I love how she has made her own TJR Multi-Verse which her characters. Whenever I read one of her newer books, and see the same names popping up, it makes me instantly happy. As I have gotten older, TJR has replaced the hole that Meg Cabot used to fill during my Young Adult days.

4. Published by Berkley Publishing Group

Anytime I am approved for a NetGalley book through the Berkley Publishing Group, my life gets so much better. I love this imprint from Penguin Random House. There is a little bit for everyone, and when it comes to Contemporary Women’s Fiction – they are one of the bests.

5. Follow Up to Berkley Publishing Group: Jen Monroe is the Senior Editor

I don’t like to think of myself as a stalker, but I soon realized that the primary reason I loved Berkley Publishing Group was because of their Senior Editor, Jen Monroe. We clearly have the same taste in novels and literature, so I exclusively started following her feature titles as my next book reads. A few of the ones under Monroe’s web: The Hacienda, The Daydreams, and The Last Russian Doll.

6. Published by St. Martin’s Press

Similar to No. 4, if I am remotely interested in a novel’s summary, and I see that the publisher is St. Martin’s Press, I instantly request an eARC off of NetGalley for it.

7. New York Time’s Best Seller List

There are a lot of the books in the world, but I get easily overwhelmed by decision paralysis. I always love when someone else picks things out for me or I hear about something through word of mouth. I prefer to order the tasting menu at restaurants, utilize subscription clothing services (RIP The Trunk Club by Nordstrom), and like when I have a curated list of books to read. The New York Time’s Best Seller list is the broadest “Book Selection” list, but still one I tend to use whenever I am looking at a new novel to read.

8. Opera’s Book Club

Secondary to Reese’s Book Club, is Opera’s Book Club. The selection is still good, and I haven’t been disappointed by any of Opera’s picks. I just like how Reese’s Book Club focuses on Women’s Stories.

9. The Gloss Book Club

I was looking for an in-person book club to join and found “The Gloss.” I like how structured the book club is and it is easy to meet up in the area. I try to read each month’s selection, but I am a little behind.

10. The Cover

They say, “Don’t judge a book by it’s Cover”; but sometimes that is all I have to decide if that is something I would want to read off of NetGalley. The cover really draws the reader in. Without a fabulous cover, most wouldn’t bother picking up the book to read the synopsis on the back.

  1. Great list! I absolutely judge a book by its cover, and I also love books by St. Martin’s Press more often than not. And while I get denied by Berkley most of the time on NG, that rare time I get approved, it’s like an extra rush of endorphins!
